Beaches, Seaside, and Cottages, in Scotland

Vacations seem to be a luxury that many of us are finally starting to explore again.  While the covid 19 pandemic put a halt on the tourist industry for a long time, we are seeing a large resurgence in it now!  One place that seems to have flown under the radar recently though is Scotland, which is brimming with opportunities for sightseeing and recreation!

That being said, though, it can be a bit of a challenge to figure out where to go in that beautiful country!  While there are adventuring guides , they often do not contain the whole picture.  One of the things that we need to consider most of all is where we will end up staying!  Cottages are an option for sure, so if you want to hear about them, make sure to stick around!

What is a Cottage?

For anyone looking for a taste of feudal living but still in a modern style, a cottage might be the choice for you!  What is a cottage, though, and how can we identify them?  As I said, for the most part they are created now to offer people with a slice of the past.  They were the main form of shelter for people in Europe for many centuries, after all.

The main components of them are that they are a small building, typically with that sort of country charm we can imagine in a book or a movie.  In Scotland in particular, they have a lot of different styles of them.  They tend to be quite cozy, which makes them appealing for vacation homes.

What to Look For?

The question, really, is how we can find the Best Scottish Cottages for our travelling needs.  There is a certain amount of subjectivity to that, of course – after all, everyone will have different preferences.  However, there are some key components that might make for a better vacation in general, if that is something that interests you!

Personally, I enjoy being able to wake up to the sound of crashing waves and sea birds chirping.  So, looking at the rental options on the beach is what I tend to go for.  While most of the beaches in Scotland are not always going to be hospitable for swimmers (it can get quite cold, after all), that does not mean that we cannot enjoy them all the same!  Sometimes, a simple walk with our toes in the sand can really improve our levels of relaxation.

Amenities are something else to consider.  Certain cottages will have more modernity to them than others (though thankfully almost all of them come with indoor plumbing).  It will be up to you to check out listings and decide what you want to prioritize.  Other things such as having a hot tub or a fireplace are usually included on the websites as well, so just bear that in mind.

Why Scotland?

Scotland is absolutely beautiful.  Whether you enjoy hiking, walking, or even prefer to stay indoors, you will find something to do that appeals to you.  The rich history is another fun aspect, including for those who may not normally find such things fun!  As you can see there is really no shortage of activities to enjoy.

Beyond that, though, there is also the matter of cost-effectiveness.  Plane tickets are certainly no joke, especially in our current economic and financial situation on a global front.  However, if you eliminate pricey hotels that offer bad meals and poor lodging, you can end up saving a fair amount of money. 

That is where cottages come into play, of course, and there is an abundance of them in Scotland!  You can find them pretty much anywhere that you would like to stay.  So, the rolling hills and mountains, the glades, and of course the beaches, all can be seen depending on where you choose.

The commute for sightseeing will probably be short no matter what, really, so just pick one that appeals the most to you.  Think about what will be comfortable for you and your family as you explore one of the most gorgeous places on our planet together!
