8 Ways to Care for Your Skin This Summer

Flawless and healthy skin is a dream for many and the summer season can be a challenging time to maintain the skin. Every skin is different and unique and it is important to understand different skin has different needs.

Different types of skin react differently to summers depending on the skin type. Oily skin can cause more acne due to sweat and humidity and other skin types are prone to tanning and sunburn when exposed to the sun for a long time.

You can also visit the dermatologist for a tan removal treatment if not controlled by home remedies.

If you are looking for ways to protect your skin from summer in a natural way, this list is just for you. You can also choose the right remedy to reverse skin issues like tanning and scaring.

1. Wash Your Face Regularly

If you have normal to oily skin, make sure you wash your face thrice a day. Not washing your face leads to breakouts. Sweat, along with sebum and dirt, starts to clog pores. This causes pimples and scaring. Make sure you keep your face clean and wash your face with a mild cleanser. You can also carry a clean wipe to clean your face if you travel outside.

2. Wear Sunscreen

A good sunscreen is an investment you make. Wearing sunscreen protects your skin from the harmful rays and radiation that cause long term skin damage. Exposure to these rays causes premature aging, wrinkles, and fine lines.

Choose from a variety of sunscreen in the market. You can go for a chemical sunscreen or a physical sunscreen that does not penetrate inside the skin. Apply sunscreen on the areas that will be exposed to the sun. Wear sunscreen 15 minutes before you step out, giving it time to absorb in the skin.

When choosing a sunscreen, go for a reef-safe sun protection product that won’t threaten corals and other marine life. This is especially important if you love going to the beach. Even if you don’t, harmful chemicals from toxic sunscreens can still find their way to oceans and seas through sewers. Thus, you should seriously consider switching to eco-friendly sunscreen and skin-care products.

3. Protect Your Skin

Protect your skin using physical barriers such as scarves and hats. If you are stepping out in the sun apart from applying sunscreen, protect your skin from direct sunlight. Carry scarves wherever you go to cover your face during summers.

4. Treat Sun Tan at The Earliest

A suntan is the darkening of the skin due to sun exposure. Go for a tan removal treatment or opt-in for home remedies for tan. Treating tan as early as possible decreases the fading time.

You can treat tan with the ingredients you can find at home. Applying curd and turmeric on tan is an effective home remedy to reverse tan.  Physical barriers like scarves and hats are also effective against tanning of the skin.

5. Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water and keep your skin hydrated. During summers, the body loses a lot of water through sweat. It is important to drink water to prevent dehydration. Just like a dehydrated body gets tired and fatigues sooner, dehydrated skin loses its natural glow.

A well-hydrated skin radiates from within and looks healthy. Apart from drinking water at regular intervals, you can also add lots of fresh juice to your diet. Antioxidants and nutrients in the fruits give you an added glow to your skin.

6. Wear Minimal Makeup

Heavy makeup can cause excessive sweating in the summer. Go for light makeup that is not heavy on your skin. Wear waterproof makeup to prevent smudging. Ensure your makeup is safe for your skin and does not cause any breakouts.

Heavy makeup can also cause product build up in your skin causing acne and pimples. Make sure you cleanse your face and remove all the makeup from your face before hitting the bed.

7. Exfoliate Your Skin

Due to humidity and sweating, a lot of dust particles tend to stick to your skin. Dead skin and dust particles will clog your pores and cause breakouts.

Exfoliate your skin once a week to remove the dead skin cells and dirt. You can also add steaming to your exfoliating routine to open the pores. Use a mild exfoliator or you can use sugar or flour mixed with honey to exfoliate your skin.

8. Moisturize your Skin

It is a common habit to skip moisturizing during summers. But moisturizing balances the oil production in the skin. Skipping moisturizer might result in excessive production of sebum leading to breakouts and acne.

Use a lightweight moisturizer after you wash your face. You can also use a moisturizer that SPF for added sun protection indoors. Every skin is unique and any skin remedy is not universal. Find the tips that work for you for the best results.
