4 Weekend Family Trip Ideas Everyone Will Enjoy

Weekend Family Trip Ideas

It’s difficult planning a weekend family trip when everyone has different interests. For instance, younger children will love the idea of renting out Disneyland for a day, but older adults may not love the whimsical theme, logistics, or price tags.

Some adults may want a relaxing spa day, but kids may be too young for spa treatments. Not to mention they could be too noisy and distract other patrons, especially if they find the whole process boring.

Weekend Family Trip Ideas:

It may seem difficult but worry not: in this day and age, there are still lots of activities families can do over the weekend that everyone will like. All families are different, so you just have to find something you can all agree on. Here are a few ideas to help brainstorm weekend travel plans for the whole family.

1. Fishing Charter Trips

Book accommodations near the beach over the weekend so that you can head on to your fishing charter trip early in the morning – the best time to fish in open water. Unlike fishing in lakes, fishing out in the open ocean means the chance to reel in larger fishes.

It’s great for the whole family, especially if your children are adventurous and want to take a boat away from the shore. Older adults could be snapper fishing, learning the basics of fishing, or developing their skills for a future fishing trip.

2. Water Parks and Beach Resorts

With over 20,000 kilometers of coastline, Western Australia is full of water parks and beach resorts that offer plenty of activities for the whole family. Plenty of resorts offer overnight accommodations as well as slides and inflatables for children and more laid-back and relaxing activities for parents who want to take a break. With everything you need in one resort, everyone is free to go use facilities they like on their own and also as a family.

3. The SEA LIFE Aquarium in Melbourne

If your family’s idea of fun is looking at marine animals, penguins, and reptiles, the SEA LIFE Aquarium in Melbourne offers plenty of sights to see. You can book your tickets online to get discounts, but you can also do walk-ins if you prefer. Not only will it be fun to see exotic animals in real life, but you’ll also get to witness handlers interacting with the animals and offering a lesson or two in protecting and conserving wildlife.

4. Cairns Marine Wildlife

The City of Cairns is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and is a go-to destination for tourists interested in scuba diving (though younger children may not be fit for this), snorkeling, and boat trips to see the largest coral reef system in the world.

There are plenty of shoreside companies that offer these trips to the reef, so try shopping around to see which business offers the best deals and experiences your family will love. If you prefer not to head out to sea, Cairns also has the Cairns Aquarium where you can see marine life without the risk of getting wet.

These sea-themed trips can make everyone in your family enjoy your weekend trip together. Some trip ideas may sound more fun than others, but it’s up to you to come together and make a group decision on what everyone wants to do for the weekend.
